Like with all the previous House of Night novels, not a whole lot happens in Tempted. Is that bad? Not necessarily. The writing is engaging and I found myself rushing through the book, ready for some type of action or event. You do get the event at the very end, leaving us at an excellent cliffhanger for the next book.
The problem is the book really does feel like it’s stringing it out. My gut says Tempted and the May 2010 novel (Burned) really could be a single work.
I enjoyed reading the book, but afterward am left wishing it was more substantive. My suggestion, if you’re considering this one, pick it up alongside Book 7. It may make for more seamless storytelling.
(This short review was written following the November release of Tempted, prior to reading Burned.)
